Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

A few weeks ago, my mum, dad and I spent the day in Geelong, catching up with some family and friends. Julie, Andy and their children were down from Queensland for the weekend to watch their son Joel play football, so it was a perfect chance to catch up.  It was nice watching the game, chatting and laughing non-stop. This bunch are always cracking jokes and I delighted in our giggles. Being outside all day, I rugged up in my new fluffy coat, my Christmas present from mum this year. I squeezed in a sneaky wear of it before I wrapped it up in Christmas paper.  My mum has a maroon Afghan coat and a tan one, which I sometimes borrow. You may recall them from my blog posts here and here . Now I have one of my own, thank you mum! I practically pounced on it, when I saw it on sale. I've been secondhand shopping for so long, I forgot that retail stores have end of season sales! I love being on work holidays, and being able to sleep in if I wish, have a leisurely breakfast without rushing to work and sipping on a hot drink. I like collecting cute mugs and recently added this bunny one to my collection. I'm assuming someone bought it around Easter time this year as I'd seen it new in the shops and they've already gotten rid of it a few months later, as I found it last month in an op-shop for $1. Or maybe it was an unwanted Easter gift. Whatever the case, I love it.   On Monday, mum and I went to our favourite country town, Daylesford. We admired a rainbow as we drove over the hills. We spotted it when it was beginning to form and watched it until it finally become a big, full rainbow. It soon became rainy so my mum and I sat in the car by a lake for an hour, chit chatting. Thanks for your well wishes in my last post, dear blogging friends. After an entire term of teaching my students remotely, I was a ball of nervous and excited energy returning to work last week. I hadn't been around so many people in a long time, so that's why I was nervous but I was very happy to see my clever students again. And it's been a great week, like I never left! Also, thank you for letting me know that my blog photos were not visible in my last post . I've since fixed it. I'm sure they were there when I first posted last week but somehow they disappeared. Hello! I finished writing my students’ reports this week – yay! Students, families and teachers have done an amazing job working together to support the children’s learning from home this term. I know I'm giving myself a pat on the back, but it is well deserved. During the week, my sister and I were thrilled to get a package in the mail from my uncle’s girlfriend. She has a cake business and kindly surprised us with some biscuits. It was quite fun being able to decorate them with edible paint. It was just last week that I was wishing that I had some paint as I’ve run out and the universe must have been listening to me. The weekend has escaped me again! After last weekend's Mexican themed party and day trip to St Kilda Beach , I spent Saturday finishing off my students' reports and getting stuck into a book called Exile on Main St by Robert Greenfield. It's about the making of the Rolling Stones' album of the same name. I'm a big Rolling Stones fan and have read many of their books. It contains some interesting anecdotes and is written in a narrative style, so I take some parts with a grain of salt. The author does make an effort to mention other people's version of events and sometimes discredits them. This morning, my mum and I headed off to the market. My finds: A navy velvet skirt, Almost Famous DVD (I love this movie!) Snakeskin boots (to add to the collection ) Linda McCartney vegetarian cookbook (I've got 4 of her books now) And all for $16! A couple of weeks ago, when I was still on work holidays, I enjoyed a fun day trip out to the annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival with my mum and sister. We'd visited many years ago with some friends and when we saw a poster advertising that the festival was on again, we decided to go.  First we had some poffertjes, which is a perfect carnival or festival snack, in my mind. We walked around the grounds and spotted a cute shop selling miniature fairies and mushrooms and a heaps of whimsical items. It would have been a dream come true for young children. There are 120 varieties of tulips and they are all so beautiful! Tesselaar Tulip Festival is held in Silvan every Spring and is a big tourist attraction in Victoria. The tulip farm began in 1954 when a Dutch couple migrated to Australia the day after their wedding. They loved tulips so much that they decided to fill a 55 acre farm with them! We loved this fairg...
