Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

Hello! I wore this purple velvet dress to my aunty Zora's 50th birthday a few weeks ago. We celebrated at a restaurant where you could choose what you wanted to eat at a buffet full of food. I loved the prawns and seafood. Later, everyone went back to my aunty's house and it was nice to catch up with some of my cousins. I bought this velvet dress at a local op-shop a year or two ago. It's been a busy first week back at work. Last weekend, my friend and I went to a youth event that my sister helped organise. There was an art show, badge-making workshops and lives performances. It was amazing to realise just how many great, local bands are out there - I had no idea! This weekend, I had a fun night out for my best friend's birthday. But even dancing into the early hours of the morning didn't stop me from getting up at 5.45am and heading off to the Sunday market! In my last blog post , I wrote about how much I loved watching Feud: Bette and Joan and it led me to watching  Mildred Pierce (1945), starring Joan Crawford. I rarely watch movies from as far back as the 1940s (although I love old films!) but I was pleasantly surprised. I quite enjoyed it and it was a good introduction to classic noir films. Source Mildred Pierce is a crime-drama film that opens with Mildred's second husband being shot. After the police interrogate some people, Mildred reveals her troubled past to the officer through flashbacks. Source Being a fan of vintage fashion, I was naturally keen to check out the outfits. They were very sophisticated and some were quite glamorous. I especially appreciated the brooches, which I rarely wear, but this film has certainly made me eager to start wearing some. Last Tuesday, my mum and I visited a few op-shops in Niddrie.  I'm glad I have her as an op-shop buddy. I've got to say, op-shops are starting to become disappointing  to me. They're not like they used to be a few years ago, that's for sure. Personally, I like markets better. There's more stock because there's so many more stall holders. There's also more vintage items and bargains to be found at markets.  It seems that op-shops lack quality vintage items and are full of a lot of junk. There's very few treasures to be found. Later, we visited a Savers op-shop store with my sister. She doesn't particularly like shopping, let alone op-shopping, but she did find a t-shirt . I found 4 pale green Johnson Brothers bowls to add to my Johnson Brothers collection.  On Monday, my mum, sister and I had a fun day trip out to Ballarat, a country town this is historically known for the Gold Rush in the 1850s. It was a one-and-a-half hour drive and I always enjoy the scenery- the hills, trees, sky and farm animals are such a peaceful sight to me. Photo taken in the town centre. We spotted a few opshops as we drove into the town centre and popped in to check them out. There weren't many treasures to be found, although I did come away with a metal necklace. It's very heavy and the older ladies at the counter joked about how I'd need a chiropractor massage after wearing it! I thought the necklace might have been vintage due to the weight of it, but the clasps look modern. Nevertheless, it's the style that I like - I've worn it a couple of times already.
