Even my old man looks good

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!  I know  Father's Day is a hard day for a lot of people who have lost their father and for many dads who don't get to spend this day with their children.  I am really grateful that I've got a good relationship with my dad. Sometimes we annoy each other, but I can tell him anything and I adore him. Yesterday we began the Father's Day celebrations by spending the day at the beach. It was the last day of Winter in Melbourne and the sun came out to play. I love being by the beach and am always sad to leave. For lunch, we had a big share platter of meat, roasted potatoes and vegetables and then had an ice-cream as we walked on the pier. Mmmm, limoncello gelati, it was just as delicious as the lemon sorbet I made last week !  I joked to my mum that this boat looks like a yellow submarine (Beatles reference! Although it's not really a submarine.) I liked pairing th...

What do you do when life gives you lemons? You could make lemonade but this weekend I decided to make some Italian lemon sorbet! It was my first attempt at making it and I was so excited about it. Although it may still be winter, you better believe I was eating the sorbet as soon as a bit of sun came out, pretending it was summer! Outfit details:  Dress, vintage scarf and boots: secondhand market finds. Other than creating this lemony delight, I also spent the weekend celebrating a friend's birthday. I bought her some flowers so of course I wanted to pose with them!  Then on Saturday I caught up with a uni friend over burgers. Even though life gets busy, I think it's important to catch up with friends whenever we can. This morning, my mum and I ventured out into the cold for a rummage through the market. My mum didn't come away with anything but I found this Queen 'Play the Game' LP. So shiny! It has Another One Bit...

I can see the places that we used to go to now

Hello again! After getting back from Sydney , I had a pretty relaxing week and went on a few day trips while I still had some time off work. Every once in a while, my mum and I love visiting Geelong, a port city right next to the beach. I have really happy childhood memories with my sister, cousins and best friend having the time of our lives in Geelong, so it's always nice to go back. We stopped off at the Geelong Vintage Market, had a look around and shared a delicious avocado bruschetta.  Ted Whitten: Footscray's football captain. I took this photo to show my dad, he's a big Bulldogs supporter! I loved this squirrel salt and pepper figurine! We had a good look around, but didn't buy anything. Window shopping can be fun too!  I'd been looking for some Summer clothes to wear at work but couldn't find anything I really liked. With clothes that I wear at work, I like to stay true to my vintage style but still look some...

Take my hand, let me stand

Hello! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty good.  On Saturday, I decided to braid my hair!  I always have my hair in a ponytail, so it was nice to try something different. The combination of the braids and my huge coin necklace made me feel rather Cleopatra-esque. I love the 1963 film Cleopatra , if only for the fashion and gorgeous snake jewellery.  Source Source I wore this outfit to visit a new local cannoli bar that my sister had discovered.  My mum and I were in our element - we love all things Italian and homemade. I had the nutella canolli and can't wait to go back and try a different flavour, perhaps the chocolate or the classic flavour (it had cedro in it, which is sugared pieces of the white part of lemon skins). Source Source On Sunday, we went to the football and the Bulldogs won what I thought was going to be a losing game. Go Dogs! In the morning, my mum and I went to the ...

She's buying the stairway to heaven

I've been looking for a fluffy leopard jacket for quite a few years now and I finally found one at the market last week. My dad kindly bought it for me as a birthday present. I've often spotted leopard jackets in retail stores and even secondhand at markets, but they've always been too big or too small and are often very boxy. So I was quite happy to find one that fitted well and wasn't bulky. There's something that's really fabulous and classic about leopard print.  You only have to look at these vintage photos for inspiration... Brigitte Bardot:  Source Sophia Loren:   Source Elizabeth Taylor:  Source I took my jacket on its first outing to the football on Saturday. It was perfect for the second day of winter in Australia, but didn't bring the Western Bulldogs any luck! Check out this vintage basket bag that my mum found for $3 a while ago. What a treasure.  I first discovered basket bags ...
