Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

I absolutely love Christmas! For me, it's one of the happiest times of the year. I love the traditions - decorating a tree, wrapping presents, eating panettone, watching Christmas movies, enjoying warm drinks in m y Christmas mugs and lighting my Christmas candles. My mum always had wonderful Christmas parties in the backyard when I was growing up and I love catching up with those same family and friends each year . How could I resist the Powerpuff girls, Bugs Bunny and Tweety purchased from Typo last year.  This year, I read How the Grinch Stole Christmas to my students and we absolutely loved it!  Last week was my final week of work for 2020 and boy was it a race to the finish line! I was feeling very stressed and completely frazzled and am very glad to now be on work holidays. Well done to all the teachers and families out there! We truly did an extraordinary job supporting students' learning in unprecedented times this year.   I had to celebrate with a trip to the local op shop. Look at all my finds! The vintage nighties were $5 each. The vintage scarves were made in Italy and cost me $3 and $2 apiece. The bakelite (!!!) bangles were $1.50 each and I bought the DVDs for $2 each. All this for $22, I was happy with that. And I can't believe I found more bakelite bangles after finding one just a few weeks ago .   Source I recently watched 'Titanic' (1997) for the first time in years and discovered just how much I love this film!  As always, I've been busy, busy, busy this week. Yes it is worth writing three times, but then again the end of year is a busy time for many people. Christmas shopping and celebrating, catching up with loved ones, racing to the end of the work year. Yesterday was spent visiting family friends which was nice. This morning I had brunch with a couple of friends from high school. It's always good to catch up on each other's lives and while away hours chatting. Some other dear family friends visited this afternoon and now I've got the last few hours of the weekend to myself. Before I get to relaxing, I wanted to share some Christmas-y photos with you.   Hello! I almost wasn't going to post this week because I've been so busy and mentally tired. I'm in the process of writing student reports and to save myself from feeling overwhelmed during the week, I completed some work on Saturday. *Sigh of relief*. I'm not complaining though as I know I'm very fortunate to have a job, especially during a tumultuous pandemic.   Victoria has had 30 days of no new COVID-19 cases - hooray! We are now not required to wear face masks outdoors if we are able to socially distance.   Other than work, I have been trying to squeeze in some fun. Over the last couple of weekends, I've visited family and family friends and I'd like to catch up with some other friends before Christmas. I've been op-shopping and yesterday I came away with Season 1 of Everybody Loves Raymond, a TV show that I came to love this year during lock-down. Fashion, food and flowers. I hope you're interested in these subjects because that is what this post (and many of my others) is about!      My gorgeous sunflowers have been dazzling our backyard, which is cause for celebration! If there's one thing we've been reminded of in 2020, it is to appreciate and enjoy the little things in life. With yellow roses also in bloom, it was only fitting to wear yellow and take some photos in the garden. A few days ago it was my sister's birthday. Luckily we both had a day off work so we went to the cinemas. We watched 'Parasite' - a funny but horrifying Korean film. It is a story of a family's financial struggles and their desperation leads them into a manipulative, deceiving life. I had to shut my eyes at the end of the film - it was so violent and graphic. Source We ate a banh-mi for lunch which was memorable because it was so, so spicy! I only ate half of it and had to take the rest home to eat  between sips of cooling milk! And to think that I can actually handle chilli!  In the evening, my dedo, uncle and cousins came over for dinner and chocolate ripple cake (I made it, it's my sister's favourite).  We had a quiet Christmas Eve at home where my mum cooked seafood spaghetti and we celebrated Christmas Day at my friend Renee's house.
