Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

  This vintage, embroidered, raffia bag is the sort of vintage treasure I have dreamt about for years. I don't often come across them, but a little while ago, I found this one in an op-shop in beachy Williamstown. My eyes must've popped out of my head and I couldn't hand over my $8 quick enough. I had to make it the star of my outfit with my cream, crochet dress and orange sandals. What's the latest treasure you've found? In other news, here's some treasures from my everyday life. Radiant sunsets.  Recently, I've also been looking at the sky every night. I like looking at the stars and moon and I read that it gives you peace of mind and a sense of how small our problems are in this huge, vast world. What have you been up to lately? Our family trip to Eden began early one morning, at 4.00am with a 6 hour car ride ahead of us. Luckily, my sister and I slept most of the way, only waking up to visit some stores such as Kmart, Aldi and Woolworths. It had been rainy and stormy all day but when we arrived at our cabin by the beach, the sky kindly behaved for a brief moment so I could take some nice photos. I made some delicious pasta with tomatoes, bocconcini and basil for dinner and we eventually fell asleep after a very bright lightning show in the sky. Day 2 of our holiday began with a delicious breakfast of Greek yoghurt, blackberries, salted peanuts and honey. I bought lots of blackberries for 80 cents a punnet at Woolworths the day before. A great bargain, as they are usually $4.50+ per punnet!  We browsed the Eden strip of shops and then went back to the cabin to make a belated Christmas dinner.  Here my mum is proudly holding her roast pork, perfectly crunchy crackling and tasty potatoes and sweet potat...

Day 2 of our Eden holiday.  I awoke at 5.50am and immediately felt immense pain all over my body. Something was seriously wrong. After falling back to sleep for a few hours, I awoke in agony and was very whinge-y. With a twisted face, I exclaimed "my bones hurt!" to which my sister helped me up but also burst into laughter at my pained expression. What felt like sore bones turned into sore muscles. I was seriously wind/sun-burnt from my time at the beach the day before. The Australian sun can be very dangerous but luckily the pain subsided after a few hours and some medication. I was as red as a lobster in real life, even though it's not so obvious in these photos. Even the straps on my dress hurt my skin!   5.30am sunrise snap taken by Mum. Ahhhh, these photos were taken a little while ago w hen I was still on  school holidays. Now I'm in the thick of writing student reports  - how  time flies! On this day,  my mum and I spent a sunny day in beachy town, Geelong. I spent so much good quality time with my mum over the holidays, we're very close. The only shame was that my sister was working while I had time off, but she wouldn't have liked rummaging around in the Geelong Mills Market anyway. We spent some time at the beautiful beach. It got so hot and windy that I later  changed my boots for some spare sandals that my mum had in the car. I liked the idea of wearing this boat bag to the beach and pairing my  turquoise necklace and bangle with a bright orange dress. While you're reading this, I'll probably still be working on my students' reports. It's that time of year again! These photos were taken back in April when I last had some work holidays. My mum and I went to our favourite Italian cafe Brunetti.  We had a posing competition. My mum wins, hands down! We stopped off at my dad's work on the way there. I thought my dad would laugh at the sight of us posing in his workplace, but instead he suggested we stand in front of the oil bottles. That made me laugh! I wore my snake print skirt, which I now refer to as my Eagles skirt as I wore it for the first time a few months ago when seeing the Eagles perform live . At Brunetti, I had pasta and vongole and my mum had squid ink pasta with crab. I made a mental note to have the crab pasta next time. We left with a lemon gelati in hand.
