Well, it's my birthday too, yeah

May is the month of birthdays in my home, with my mum's last week and mine this week. My family and I went to Daylesford for a stroll through the countryside. I love this lily pad behind me. It looks marvellous in summer. There were very few people about as it was cold and wet. Even my sturdy cowboy boots didn't stop me from slipping several times on the slippery moss.  A peacock decided it wanted to be best friends with my umbrella and menacingly followed my mum and I around, much to her delight and my terror! We had some souvlakis, chicken burgers and hot chips for lunch. My favourite vintage mills market was closed so we entertained ourselves by walking around Lake Daylesford and laughing over one joke or another. There were more people out and about so we all remained socially distanced.  This outfit kept me warm! Coat ($4) and vintage bag ($7): Op-shopped. Earrings and turtleneck: retail. Boots ($10) and cord pants ($5): Second ha

All Things Must Pass

Hello! What a week it's been! George Harrison said it best, all things must pass . Although I've gotten into the routine of working from home, yesterday was my last day of doing so.  I'll have to return back to school on Monday. Of course I'm a bit nervous about it although I'm trying not to be as I know the school is taking so many safety precautions. Plus I know my grade 1 students are eager to get back to school. They have expressed that this stay-at-home period has left them feeling worried, angry, scared - gosh children are really perceptive about what is going on around them. The principal asked the teachers and children to take a photo of their learning space to document this unique time in history. Here I am working on my trusty school laptop... In preparation to returning back to work, we teachers have been offered a voluntary coronavirus test, which I did on Wednesday. For two days I was absolutely dreading it as I'd seen pictures of the metho

Mama, You've Been On My Mind

Hello! I wasn't sure if I'd get around to writing a blog post this week, I've been so busy and haven't had the inclination to write until now. These photos were taken during the week and are pretty candid as my sister randomly started snapping away as I was eating  lunch and reading in the sunshine. As I spend a lot of time working from home indoors on my laptop, as soon as it's lunchtime I'm keen to get outside a bit. One second, let me fix my hair! My peace and quiet was interrupted by my mum who was taking some outfit photos so I had to join in, of course! Last Sunday was Mother's Day so I made my mum  a lovely lunch. I was inspired to make  Southern fried corn  after recently reading an Elvis  recipe and  tsaziki and homous dips after  seeing Tonia Buxton's delicious looking  trio of dips .  I even made my own Lebanese bread! Everyone at home loved it!  The Lebanese bread took ages to make and we all g

Hello, I'm 6 weeks into isolation, how about about you? During the week, I've been busy working from home and navigating the new way of teaching through video meetings.  I've been trying to limit the time I spend on my phone as I'm spending  many hours looking at a screen for work and I don't want to completely ruin my eyesight . When I first started teaching, some teachers and I  joked that I'd have glasses soon enough, like most of them did. 3 years on, and I'm glad my eyesight hasn't suffered! As soon as the working day is done, I like to do a bit of exercise, read or do some gardening. I've planted broad bean, leeks, coriander and spinach. I can't wait 'til they grow. I've been cooking the broad bean leaves in vegetable dishes. Did you know that you can eat broad bean leaves? They're very handy when you're running out of greens. I've been re- purposing bottles as flower vases...  and I
