I'm glad it's your birthday, happy birthday to you

Image
Hello! It's my mum's birthday tomorrow so my family and I have spent some time celebrating with her this weekend. Yesterday we went out to a local park and then to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. It's Autumn here in Australia and I adore the changing colours of the leaves, especially the red leaves in this photo.  This plant with small yellow flowers was cute too. I like taking photos in front of trees or flowers. In fact, I love spending time in nature in general. I remember learning at uni that being amongst nature is really important for humans, it's like a form of meditation. I was happily taking in the beauty of the park when I noticed a man peeking his head through the bushes and watching us as we took some outfit shots. He kept stopping and watching us, stopping and looking at us. Very weird. Either he thought our outfits were outrageously wonderful (!) or... I don't know, it was very strange. We're just taking photos, carry...

My most treasured dress: Radley of London

Image
On Sunday, I shared what I wore to a wedding and here are some pictures of an outfit I recently wore to a funeral. I'm not one to ever do this, but this dress is  special .  It's a vintage Radley of London dress. Swinging Sixties designer Ossie Clark and his wife Celia Birtwell made some clothes for Radley and they are much sought after amongst vintage enthusiasts. Ossie Clark dressed the fabulous and rockers of the sixties and seventies, including the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Anita Pallenberg, Marianne Faithfull, Pattie Boyd and Liza Minelli.   Pattie Boyd in Ossie Clark. Anita Pallenberg in an Ossie Clark snakeskin jacket. Marianne Faithfull in an Ossie Clark suit. Mick Jagger in an Ossie velvet jumpsuit About 3 or 4 years ago, I bought this dress on eBay for a remarkable $30! I've often seen Ossie Clark or Radley pieces for three or even four digit prices online, so it was a real bargain!  I pull this dress out for occasion...

Looking At The World Through Rose Colored Glasses

Hello! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty good. On Saturday, I got a chance to catch up with my friends from uni. We went out for lunch and chatted the day away.  I love a good ol' catch up.  We're all teachers so it was good to talk about our different experiences. I wore this outfit and believe it or not, the bangles are the only things that are secondhand or vintage. The boots, tights and navy cardigan (worn under the dress) were bought years ago. The sunglasses and denim zip-up dress were bought this year and I'm certain that I'll wear and love these pieces for years to come. After discovering Oasis a little while ago, the music caught my attention first but I also like the image of the sunglasses some of the band members wore. So that's the inspiration behind these pink round glasses. Source Back in the sixties, Marianne Faithfull and John Lennon also knew a thing or two about a good pair of sunglasses. Source ...

Sky of blue and sea of green

School's out again! After three days of being on holidays, I've got to admit, I'm still exhausted. I'm lucky that, as a teacher, I have extra holidays than the average working person, I'm not complaining! One of the things that I mentioned I'm looking forward to in my last blog post was going on some day trips whilst I'm on holidays, and that's exactly what I got to do over the weekend. I went to St. Kilda with my family. We had a big breakfast at a cafe then went to hang  out by the beach.  I haven't visited a beach since the beginning of January, so I was eager to just be surrounded by it, even if it was a bit cold and windy.  Being at the beach makes me feel so free and happy.  I love that I captured these photos and can relive it all. We popped into an op-shop on the way home. I came out empty handed but I enjoyed the conversation with the locals. That's one thing I really like ab...

And I Think Of All The Things

I can't believe I last posted on Monday, it feels like weeks! I wrote about finding this  Australian-made striped jacket  and promptly wore it. So what have I been up to this week? I've been ... - Crocheting - it's so relaxing and I like feeling creative when I produce something. - Watching an Amy Winehouse concert at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. It was her 7 year anniversary since her passing this week. Source - Listening to John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Double Fantasy for the first time. - Reading Marianne Faithfull's book Memories, Dreams and Reflections . I enjoyed her autobiography better, I seem to be stuck in the middle of this book and I'm finding it hard to get through it. Source I wrote about wanting to watch some Bette Davis movies after watching Feud: Bette and Joan, and I've since watched Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (such a nerve-racking thriller) and The Bride Came C.O.D...

When you ask me 'bout the clothes I wear...

I've been lusting over snakeskin boots for a long, long time. In my mind, they're synonymous with rock and roll in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Keith Richards Marianne Faitfull Brian Jones Seeing as I haven't been able to find an authentic, vintage pair, I've settled for some modern ones.  I occasionally spot some vintage pairs on eBay, but I can't justify spending three or four figure prices on shoes. I have a grey and white pair, and as you might have noticed in this post , I recently spotted a tan pair at a market. At first, I wasn't sure about them as the heel was a bit too tall for me and it was see-through (which you can't really notice in these photos). Even though they're not vintage, I figured they were close enough. They weren't much of a settle, were they? I love them! I wore them to work this week and they were quite uncomfortable.  Hopefully my feet get used to t...
