Measuring a summer's day, I only finds it slips away to grey

Day 4 of our Eden holiday began with three rainbow lorikeets greeting us and landing on my mum's hand to eat some panettone, of all things! My family and I had a lazy morning, where I did lots of embroidery. I embroidered three large poppies on a lilac, cotton bag which I'll use to carry shopping/groceries. For lunch, my family and I went to the Great Southern Hotel Inn. My mum and I enjoyed a delicious rump steak with mushroom sauce, vegetables and roast potatoes. It was so tasty and I looked forward to returning. After lunch, we drove around the wharf and lookout and admired  the beautiful, blue water.   The afternoon was spent relaxing, journaling, eating ice-cream and seeing more rainbow parakeets as they returned for an afternoon snack! I hope you don't get sick of seeing my same sunglasses, straw bag and sandals in my holiday posts. I only packed two small bags and tried to choose items that I love that also go with my dresses! You've been all over and it's been all over you

Day 2 of our holiday began with a trip to the Sunny Ridge strawberry farm in Rosebud. We got to pick our own strawberries and take them home. Of course we also ate some whilst picking! I wore my red maxi dress - perfectly matching the strawberries!     After picking 4 containers of strawberries, my family and I ate at the the farm cafe under some beautiful grape vines. Mum and I chatted to a nice lady who kindly let us share her table as the place was busy. We loved the strawberry ice-cream sundae - delicious!  On the way back to the motel, we stopped off at a winery. Gosh everything is stunning in Rosebud and it's remarkable how the beach, wineries and the countryside are all in one place. After lunch, we revisited the beach across the road from the motel. We relaxed in the water and I loved floating on my back, it was a moment of peacefulness and gratitude. Needless to say I always hate having to leave the beach and practically had to be dragged away. We ended the da...

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up in the morning when the day is new?

The holiday fun continues... My sister, mum and I drove down to the Eden wharf to buy some mussels fresh off the boat. Turned out, there weren't any mussels available. So we walked across the wharf and bought some oysters and lobsters from a nice fisherman.    Mum cooked spaghetti with cherry tomato sauce and we had the seafood as well. Soooo delicious! The lobster was a rare treat. I think I've only tasted it once before. We thought it tasted like a cross between a crab and a prawn. Very, very nice. I watched an episode of Antiques Roadshow (a nice routine I slipped into while away) and played chess with Dad (defeated, The Queen's Gambit has my sister and dad hooked!). Later, my sister and I went for a walk on the beach. The next day started with yoghurt and mango for breakfast and continued with a BBQ lunch. Alex and I swam in the beach, which was so lovely. I've had some wonky bathers in the past but these maroon ones are indeed the best and most flattering I...

It's another tequila sunrise

Day 2 of our Eden holiday.  I awoke at 5.50am and immediately felt immense pain all over my body. Something was seriously wrong. After falling back to sleep for a few hours, I awoke in agony and was very whinge-y. With a twisted face, I exclaimed "my bones hurt!" to which my sister helped me up but also burst into laughter at my pained expression. What felt like sore bones turned into sore muscles. I was seriously wind/sun-burnt from my time at the beach the day before. The Australian sun can be very dangerous but luckily the pain subsided after a few hours and some medication. I was as red as a lobster in real life, even though it's not so obvious in these photos. Even the straps on my dress hurt my skin!   5.30am sunrise snap taken by Mum. After a big breakfast of eggs, bacon and tomatoes on toast, my family and I drove into Merimbula around midday. We browsed the shops and discovered many had shut down, probably due to COVID-19. The RSL kitchen closed at 2pm so we were...

We're all going on a summer holiday

Just like our last Eden holiday suddenly ended with bush-fires and us scurrying to make our way home, this year's holiday ended much the same with us having to leave quickly due to the border closing. It started out all lovely though. After Christmas, mum woke my family and I at 4am to make the 6-8 hour drive to New South Wales. I had packed earlier in the week so I put my bags in the car, got dressed and brushed my hair and teeth and then off we went at 5.20am.   I slept on and off for most the the drive there, eating two McDonald's hashbrowns for breakfast and sharing a souvlaki with my sister for lunch when we stopped in a small town in the middle of nowhere. For hours and hours, we saw trees that were burnt from last year's terrifying bush fires. They were very skinny and black with bits of leaves growing on the sides of them, not the top. It looked like we were driving in some sort of Dr. Seuss-ville. There must have been MILLIONS of trees like that. It served as a r...

Someone, somewhere in the summertime

Hello!  I've recently come back from a holiday. My family and I went to Eden, New South Wales after Christmas . It was an 8 hour drive from Melbourne and the road trip is always one of my favourite parts of going on holidays. On our obligatory holiday stop at McDonalds for breakfast, I passed on my usual hash brown and had a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich instead. Who knew they sold toasties? I only go to McDonalds about once a year - can you tell?!  I spent most of the car ride sleeping, the windy roads put me and my sister straight to sleep! We spent the next day swimming at the beach. We're really lucky to have a beach about 20 metres away from the cabin, so we could eat outside by the waters and hear the waves crash at night. For dinner, I made us a quick Mexican meal - nachos, tomato salsa and guacamole. We're still on a Mexican kick after a friends' Mexican themed party ! Aren...
