Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

Bright turquoise tights? What was I thinking?! I bought these pair of tights recently on eBay and since they arrived, I've been stumped on how to style them. Yesterday I had a brainwave! I wanted to wear my new cord miniskirt with my matching emerald turtleneck but I decided it needed a pop of colour - blue legs! It was a day of firsts, I also wore these new-to-me green snakeprint boots and the blue scarf pulled the look all together. I thought it was only right to dress up to go to an opshop! It's the first time I've been in MONTHS! Well, that's not entirely true. I went to a small opshop last week before eating banh-mi at a cafe and it was a bad experience. I felt so uncomfortable being in such a small public space and there were people blocking both isles that led to the exit. I hardly looked at anything because I couldn't wait to get out of there. This is the outfit I wore for the Christmas in July party I was telling you about in my last blog post. I thought it was a good excuse to pull out this emerald satin skirt. It glistens in the sun.  Once I put on my beloved snake print boots, I knew that I needed to pair it with this fringe-y belt. This belt must be 15-20 years old. I remember seeing it in my mum's closest when I was little and I was enamoured with the fringe and metal parts. A little while ago, my mum was cleaning her wardrobe and asked if I wanted this belt. On Saturday, I was listening to the With the Beatles album as I was cleaning and the song ' Please Mister Postman' got stuck in my head. So naturally when I passed a postbox the next day on the way home from the market, I had to get a photo in front of it! Silly, I know, but fashion is meant to be fun.  Speaking about fashion, here are my prized Turkish boots. Every year, on my way to visit Eden , I'd go into a  Turkish store in Stratford and lust over these boots. I used to look at them, but never buy them - they were out of my price range. Finally, w hen I was working part time at uni, I saved and saved for them and the next time we passed Stratford, I bought them!  Aren't they unusual! I styled this outfit around my boots because I knew the weather would be okay and I only wear them when I know it's not going to rain. Day 3 of our holiday to Lorne started off with a nature hike to Erskine Falls. A friend from work recommended seeing the waterfall and it was definitely worth the trip.  My dad and sister ventured through the rocks to get a closer look. I was making my way over until my sister slipped off the slippery rocks and into the water and I decided, nope, not doing that ! This is as much "glamour" as I could muster up for hiking, with a limited holiday wardrobe. I just wore my velvet leopard pants, runners and an old Rolling Stones tshirt. I didn't quite blend in with the masses of people wearing black and leggings!  We then drove to Teddy's Lookout which amazed me even more than the waterfall. Everywhere you looked, there was a beautiful view of the ocean. The sound of the waves was so calming. I really didn't want to ever leave. After seeing out 2018 with a bang of fireworks on the beach , my family and I returned to Merimbula for our tradition of having lunch at the RSL. After lunch, we walked to the Boardwalk, which is a long pier along the lake shore. It was a so lovely - we spotted lots of oysters and tiny crabs in the water. We even heard an animal rustling in the bushes and discovered an echidna ! I've only ever seen this wild Australian mammal in the zoo, so it was cool to see one up close. Even though we've visited Merimbula many times before, we'd never known about the Boardwalk. When I was talking to another teacher, she recommended it and said that she was also holidaying there. We were glad to discover a new place to wander around and wouldn't you know it, we bumped into the very same teacher and had a nice chat! After such a busy weekend last week , I was glad to do a whole lotta nothing this weekend.  Well, I did do a few things... I spent Saturday planning and doing other things for work. On Friday, the school I work at celebrated Book Week. I dressed up as a ladybug because my class is learning about mini-beasts. It was so much fun getting dressed up and wearing a velvet cape for the day. I can only imagine how much more excited the children were about wearing their costumes! I spent the rest of the weekend reading and watching T.V. I'm hooked on watching Sons of Anarchy. There's so much shocking drama in every episode. Each time I think the main character Jax (below) is going to finally leave the club, he's somehow pulled back into it. Hello! How was your weekend? On Friday night, I had not one, but two birthday parties to go to - my twin cousins' 21st and a family friend's 1 8th! It was all too much for an introvert like me. Nevertheless, it was nice to see some relatives, family friends and have a fun time dancing. On Saturday, we went to visit the twins and their family for a barbeque, it's nice to catch up once in a while as we don't see each other too often. It was too rainy to go the market on  Sunday , and we were too tired from all the socialising! It was good to get a sleep in. In the afternoon, when picking my sister up from a theatre rehearsal, my mum and I popped into Savers, an op-shop. I was beyond excited to find this DVD!
