Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

  During the summer, my family and I went on our annual holiday to Eden, New South Wales. The first morning there, I woke up at 7.30am and made pancakes with buttered walnuts, blueberries and honey and enjoyed it by the beach.  My family and I drove to coastal town Merimbula and stopped off at Oakland on the way. There, we saw some giant sunflowers, a cute gift store, a little cafe, a telephone booth, a brewery and a chocolate factory.  My mum and I loved the gardens. For lunch, we went to Merimbula Aquarium & Wharf Restaurant. It's a bit lavish and expensive, but we love returning once a year and we emjoy the delicious seafood pasta. For dinner, we had a bit of “this and that”, which basically means a mixture of food from the fridge, when you don’t feel like making a proper meal. Day 4 in Eden started out with a morning swim. I really enjoyed boogie boarding, floating on the waves and sliding into the sand (and getting sand burn).  We went for a drive to the Eden wharf and walked around, taking in the beautiful sights. The end of the wharf was fascinating and it reminded me of a Freddie Mercury  statue   that was built in front of a lake in Montreal.  Source At the ocean lookout, my mum and I got talking to a sweet elderly lady who was walking her dog. Her son said that he'd moved back to Australia from New Zealand to live near his mum in Merimbula. He said that he took his mum for a walk to the beach every day, which is just about the sweetest thing I'd ever heard. For 3 weeks over Christmas time, the town is filled with tourists, he said, and then they have the beach to themselves for the rest of the year. It was lovely to chat to them. Hello from the lookout! Day 3 in Eden started with our routine walk on the beach.  Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise. My mum took this beautiful sunrise photo - she's an early riser. Although I'd like to take these sort of photos myself, I get up early throughout the year so holidays are really the only time I  sleep in.   Outfit details: Maxi dress - hand-me-down from my ma! After seeing out 2018 with a bang of fireworks on the beach , my family and I returned to Merimbula for our tradition of having lunch at the RSL. After lunch, we walked to the Boardwalk, which is a long pier along the lake shore. It was a so lovely - we spotted lots of oysters and tiny crabs in the water. We even heard an animal rustling in the bushes and discovered an echidna ! I've only ever seen this wild Australian mammal in the zoo, so it was cool to see one up close. Even though we've visited Merimbula many times before, we'd never known about the Boardwalk. When I was talking to another teacher, she recommended it and said that she was also holidaying there. We were glad to discover a new place to wander around and wouldn't you know it, we bumped into the very same teacher and had a nice chat!
