Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

My mum and I hadn't been to our beloved Daylesford in about 6 months and since we'd also run out of honey (which we buy from in a little stall there), we recently had a perfect excuse to return. Even though it's only Autumn here in Australia, it was so freezing cold, that even my big, fluffy Afghan coat couldn't keep me warm! Nevermind, we still ventured out to taste-test and purchase some delicious Red Mallee honey and then admire the beautiful Jubilee Lake.  Our favourite Daylesford restaurant The Convent was closed for the day so we returned to The Virgin Kitchen , another place we have enjoyed eating at once before. My mum and I both loved the steak sandwich with cheese, onions, lettuce and spicy sauce. Delicious and it warmed us up on a cold day! After lunch, we hurried home to our gorgeous foster kitten Henry. We don't like to leave him home alone for too long. He has two moods:  1. Cheekily scratching and biting us. 2. Sleepy and cuddly. I prefer the latter!...

  The last of my beach holiday posts is here!  Much like our last holiday , this one came to a sudden halt. It started out like a normal day. My family and I browsed some of the Eden shops - the hippie shop, a new op-shop and the $2 shop. We visited the lookout, a gorgeous place where you can see a 180 degree view of the ocean. We took photos, gazed at the water, watched boats glide by and heard overseas holidaymakers chattering away with their lovely accents and languages.   We went to the Fisherman's Club for lunch, a small way to say 'thank you' to the small business that gave us shelter when we had to evacuate from bush-fires last year. We spotted the pokies machines area where we'd had to sleep on the carpet with hundreds of other people. The room will be forever etched in my mind as it was such a frightening situation but seeing it in the daylight was very strange as I almost didn't recognise it.     We walked upstairs to the eating area and I umm-ed and ...

Day 4 in Eden started out with a morning swim. I really enjoyed boogie boarding, floating on the waves and sliding into the sand (and getting sand burn).  We went for a drive to the Eden wharf and walked around, taking in the beautiful sights. The end of the wharf was fascinating and it reminded me of a Freddie Mercury  statue   that was built in front of a lake in Montreal.  Source At the ocean lookout, my mum and I got talking to a sweet elderly lady who was walking her dog. Her son said that he'd moved back to Australia from New Zealand to live near his mum in Merimbula. He said that he took his mum for a walk to the beach every day, which is just about the sweetest thing I'd ever heard. For 3 weeks over Christmas time, the town is filled with tourists, he said, and then they have the beach to themselves for the rest of the year. It was lovely to chat to them. Hello from the lookout! What do you do when life gives you lemons? You could make lemonade but this weekend I decided to make some Italian lemon sorbet! It was my first attempt at making it and I was so excited about it. Although it may still be winter, you better believe I was eating the sorbet as soon as a bit of sun came out, pretending it was summer! Outfit details:  Dress, vintage scarf and boots: secondhand market finds. Other than creating this lemony delight, I also spent the weekend celebrating a friend's birthday. I bought her some flowers so of course I wanted to pose with them!  Then on Saturday I caught up with a uni friend over burgers. Even though life gets busy, I think it's important to catch up with friends whenever we can. This morning, my mum and I ventured out into the cold for a rummage through the market. Hello and Happy Christmas in July! I have never celebrated Christmas in July before, so I was so excited about doing so recently. My best friend's family organised it and me and my family were happy to go along, bring some food and have some fun. We've all known each other for years and I love a good get together. Everyone's going through their own challenges at the moment so it's great that we can all get together, support one another and have a good time. When I say, Thank God's It's Christmas , I really mean it! Haha Last week, my mum was telling me a story about how her nonna used to have a cute little golden Christmas tree. Last year, we'd bought one of our own as a little ode to her.  I pulled it out this year and decorated it with some ornaments that I've collected over the years. After seeing out 2018 with a bang of fireworks on the beach , my family and I returned to Merimbula for our tradition of having lunch at the RSL. After lunch, we walked to the Boardwalk, which is a long pier along the lake shore. It was a so lovely - we spotted lots of oysters and tiny crabs in the water. We even heard an animal rustling in the bushes and discovered an echidna ! I've only ever seen this wild Australian mammal in the zoo, so it was cool to see one up close. Even though we've visited Merimbula many times before, we'd never known about the Boardwalk. When I was talking to another teacher, she recommended it and said that she was also holidaying there. We were glad to discover a new place to wander around and wouldn't you know it, we bumped into the very same teacher and had a nice chat!
