Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

 A day in the city! In the past, I didn't really enjoy going to the city, but recently I have learnt to love it. Nice food in cafes, little tea rooms, clothing stores, these are the places I enjoy. Recently my mum and I went to the city to have lunch at Florentino. I enjoyed my duck ragu tagliatelle although my mum was disappointed with her linguine with (not so fresh) seafood. Isn't it so disappointing when you go to a fancy restaurant and spend some big bucks and your meal isn't nice? Next we ventured into Sportsgirl where mum tried on some clothes and I took an outfit selfie in the 360 degrees mirror. I wore my new-to-me, vintage leopard coat which I mentioned in my last post. Mum and I were accidentally twinning as she also chose to wear her leopard coat that day! I'm so glad these backyard blossoms got captured on camera at the beginning of spring. They lasted for about a week and then some strong winds blew them all away. Ah, it was beautiful while it lasted! The garden is glorious at the moment. Roses are blooming, the orchids burst open and the greens are abundant. About twice a week, I pick enough greens to fill this colander and we've been throwing them into soups or pasta. These bluebells are so gorgeous. Last year, when I was at my dedo's (grandad's) house, I commented on how beautiful they are. All of a sudden, he pulled out a whole bunch and gave them to me to take home. You've got to be careful what you say around him! Last weekend, when we were checking in on him, I asked if I could pick a few of his lavender flowers and then he brought out a knife and insisted on cutting about 50 more so I had a huge bunch to take home. Travel with me in my time machine, back to the last day of summer, before the corona virus pandemic took over the world. Now, what's the perfect way to celebrate the last day of summer? Go to the beach of course! A few Saturdays ago, on a whim, my family and I decided to do just that. We bought some food from the supermarket when we arrived in  Altona and had a little picnic by the water. We nibbled on basil dip, crackers, olives, stuffed mini peppers, bread rolls,  slices of turkey and cheese. It was really yum and beautiful to be by the beach. Hello, I'm back in the garden with my pot of sunflowers again !  I just love them. J ust  looking at them makes me so happy. My mum never used to be fond of sunflowers and now she loves them  too! I'm collection the seeds once the sunflowers die and I'm going to plant them again. I wore this outfit a little while ago, when I went out for lunch with my uni friends. We're all teachers and catch up whenever we have school holidays. It's great to keep in touch and talk about our different experiences in our classrooms and what we've been up to in general. I bought this leopard, satin skirt not too long ago at a market and this was my first time wearing it. Apparently, animal print and satin is trendy at the moment. That's okay, because I can stock up on leopard print, snake skin and satin pieces of clothing before fashion trends quickly move onto something else. Hello!  I've recently come back from a holiday. My family and I went to Eden, New South Wales after Christmas . It was an 8 hour drive from Melbourne and the road trip is always one of my favourite parts of going on holidays. On our obligatory holiday stop at McDonalds for breakfast, I passed on my usual hash brown and had a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich instead. Who knew they sold toasties? I only go to McDonalds about once a year - can you tell?!  I spent most of the car ride sleeping, the windy roads put me and my sister straight to sleep! We spent the next day swimming at the beach. We're really lucky to have a beach about 20 metres away from the cabin, so we could eat outside by the waters and hear the waves crash at night. These are the craziest pants I own! Leopard print and velvet, can you top that? I took these photos a while ago, when my nonna was staying over for a few days when I had my last work holidays. We'd just been to Footscray to buy some canolli and I took these quick snaps when we got home. I've wanted leopard prints pants for years, ever since I saw these photos from the sixties, of Anita Pallenberg rocking these wild pants. She's an endless source of style inspiration for me. I was thrilled when I found these pants online. I don't usually buy clothes online as I prefer to see them in the flesh, but when I saw these, I decided to buy them. I've been looking for a fluffy leopard jacket for quite a few years now and I finally found one at the market last week. My dad kindly bought it for me as a birthday present. I've often spotted leopard jackets in retail stores and even secondhand at markets, but they've always been too big or too small and are often very boxy. So I was quite happy to find one that fitted well and wasn't bulky. There's something that's really fabulous and classic about leopard print.  You only have to look at these vintage photos for inspiration...
