Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

On our sixth and final day in Tasmania, my family and I woke up early to drive up Mount Wellington and enjoy the view before the clouds descended. It was so cold up there, that I took one look and then eagerly returned to the warm car. Before our flight back to Melbourne, my sister wanted to squeeze in one more thing on our itinerary. We visited the popular MONA museum - museum of old and new art. It was a bit of a kooky place, but I did manage to take some photos of art that I liked including the Egyptian artefacts, Orthodox religious artwork, one even from Macedonia, where my dad and grandparents were born! It was surrounded by clouds and mirrors, a vision of heaven. Outside of MONA, my sister enjoyed bouncing on the giant trampoline. Day 5 in Tasmania was very rainy. In Launceston, we checked out of the hotel, browsed some stores including a very unique looking umbrella store and an opshop. On this holiday, I didn't buy anything at all except food and one face cream as I had no space in my luggage with a 7kg limit. We made the long drive back to Hobart, walked by the bay and my sister and I spotted some more starfish in the water. I wore my mum's leopard dress and she wore a cute blue maxi with a long, lacy cardigan. I loved wearing this leopard dress so much that I looked on eBay and found the exact same one and purchased it for myself. Perhaps my mum and I will have a leopard twinning moment soon! We took my dad out for a birthday dinner at Ottimo Ristorante Italiano . I enjoyed a prawn, anchovy and chilli spaghetti. We walked by the bay again after dinner and had some gelati. Day 3 in Tasmania began bright and early with a day out to Bruny Island. We caught the quick, ten minute ferry from Hobart to Bruny Island and in that short time, we managed to admire the beautiful, sparkling water and see some dolphins too (although I wasn't quick enough to capture a photo of them)! The first stop on our itinerary was the Cheese Co . We sampled a variety of cheese and then bought a platter with three types of cheese, onion relish, pickled vegetables and the most deliciously crunch sourdough bread.  Next we stopped off at Bruny Island Honey and delighted in tasting six different varieties of honey, one even had caramelised ginger in it! My mum, sister and I each bought a face cream. The one I bought had wonderful sounding ingredients including silk powder, manuka honey, beeswax and olive oil. Day 2 in Tasmania began with a nice sleep in and then my family and I went to Hastings Cave, a 1.5 hour drive from our hotel in Hobart. I wasn't sure what to expect and was genuinely amazed by the beauty of the stalactites coming down from the cave and the stalagmites growing up from the cave floor. We walked up and down many steps, 50 metres below the ground, looking at the  stalactites  in wonder. We had to be careful walking on the wet, slippery ground and ducked the low parts of the cave. We were told not to touch any of the  stalactites  or  stalagmites  as the oils on our skin kill them and stop them from growing. We spent the afternoon swimming in the hot springs pool. After returning to the hotel for a shower and change of clothes, my family and I went out for a late dinner at Ball and Chain .  It's a restaurant with steak and seafood cooked on a charcoal grill, in a historic building that was constructed by convicts. The rump steak with m...
