I am sailing, I am sailing

Do you want to know the best thing about being a similar size to your mama?  You can steal (or borrow) her clothes!  My mum gave me this cord jumpsuit when she was clearing a few things out of her wardrobe. You may recognise it from a recent, football themed post . It's so comfortable to wear. I paired it with my navy turtleneck and matching beret that I crocheted myself. Such a monotone outfit called for my patterned Turkish boots. These boots received many  compliments  at the weekend market, one lady even declared, "I NEED THEM!" I didn't know what to say to that, so just laughed. Thank you darling, but I'm not parting with them, perhaps . I found a few treasures for myself at the market. A brown midi dress and a boat bag, made by a man from Cambodia. It's so unusual, I love it! It made me think of Rod Steward's song.  I am sailing, I am saaaaailing! These photos were taken in a women's peace garden that my mum and I re...

Speak in secret alphabets

A couple of weeks ago, my workmates and I had a professional development meeting about resilience and how to encourage it on our students. I got A LOT out of it. Not only did I enjoy learning more about how it is so important to model gratitude, empathy, kindness and mindfulness to students, I also came away from it feeling very positive. In just a short time, I've noticed an improvement in my mindset, just by being more conscious about the importance of gratitude. Last week, I wrote a list of things I am grateful for on my Instagram and I think I'll try to do that once a week. I noted little things I am grateful for such as: 1. My family 2. Seeing the sun set 3. The company and conversations with work mates 4. The chicken soup I was having for dinner that night 5. The fab snake print boots I was wearing in the photo. (You know me, I couldn't resist!) I wanted to add some humour to the notion of gratitude because I know i...

Oh yeah, wait a minute Mister Postman

On Saturday, I was listening to the With the Beatles album as I was cleaning and the song ' Please Mister Postman' got stuck in my head. So naturally when I passed a postbox the next day on the way home from the market, I had to get a photo in front of it! Silly, I know, but fashion is meant to be fun.  Speaking about fashion, here are my prized Turkish boots. Every year, on my way to visit Eden , I'd go into a  Turkish store in Stratford and lust over these boots. I used to look at them, but never buy them - they were out of my price range. Finally, w hen I was working part time at uni, I saved and saved for them and the next time we passed Stratford, I bought them!  Aren't they unusual! I styled this outfit around my boots because I knew the weather would be okay and I only wear them when I know it's not going to rain. I decided to stick with solid colours - a purple turtleneck, purple tights and rust/red cord skirt. I think I've...

See the sky in front of you

Last Tuesday, my mum and I visited a few op-shops in Niddrie.  I'm glad I have her as an op-shop buddy. I've got to say, op-shops are starting to become disappointing  to me. They're not like they used to be a few years ago, that's for sure. Personally, I like markets better. There's more stock because there's so many more stall holders. There's also more vintage items and bargains to be found at markets.  It seems that op-shops lack quality vintage items and are full of a lot of junk. There's very few treasures to be found. Later, we visited a Savers op-shop store with my sister. She doesn't particularly like shopping, let alone op-shopping, but she did find a t-shirt . I found 4 pale green Johnson Brothers bowls to add to my Johnson Brothers collection. My Nonna has used Johnson Brothers plates for years, so they have a nostalgic value for me and I love the pale yellow, pink and green colours. Here's what I wore w...

Working from seven to eleven

It's a busy time of year for me at the moment, as it is for many teachers. It's report writing time and I'm writing my first reports! I wanted to be really organised, so I've started working on them gradually over numerous weekends and this past weekend was the last one before we hand them in. I'm feeling happy that I've completed them and saved myself the stress of doing them all at once. But enough about that, I know I'm not the only one tired from work and that there's so many hard working people out there. When I'm at home, I tend to stay in my pyjamas, but on Saturday, I popped out to the supermarket to get a few things. This is what I wore: Denim dress and turtleneck: retail. Vintage snakeskin belt and pepper beads: market finds. Boots: Turkish shop.  I bought these Turkish boots quite a few years ago in a shop in Stratford, Victoria.  My family and I have passed the shop for many years on...
