Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

Hello, I'm back with my time machine! Escape the dreaded COVID-19 and travel back with me to  early March, when I had a long weekend for Labour Day.  Of course it is a chance to relax or go out and I did a bit of both.  On the Saturday, my sister organised for us to go see a film that was set in Macedonia, called Honeyland . My sister and I are Australian with Italian and Macedonian backgrounds but we have never ever seen a film set in Macedonia, so this was a novelty for us. My sister wanted to take my Dedo with us as she thought he might enjoy it. Source My Dedo is 90 years old and he's not really into the cinemas, but for this, he was happy to go. On the drive there, we asked him when he last went to a cinema and he said that he'd been once or twice, back when he was living in Macedonia, which was close to 60 years ago!  We got there half an hour early, so we went into Brunetti and had a delicious gelati before the movie started.  S...

Let me take you back in time to a little while ago when we went to an Elton John concert. It was a busy day, which started off with a visit to my Baba's grave for a 'day of the dead' where Macedonians gather at cemeteries, bring some food to eat and remember their loved ones. My mum made these delicious corn quiches. Have I ever told you that my mum's a fantastic cook? Then we went to one of my favourite places, the valley.    I figured the snakes wouldn't bother me in this snakeprint dress. Maybe they'd think I was one of them. Mind you, my sister has spotted a snake here in the past. I almost regret that I missed it. I think I didn't notice because I was too busy talking (of course!). We've even seen a wallaby in the valley, which was exciting. Basking in the sun. That's an old train line in the distance. What are your favourite flowers? I love sunflowers, tulips , daffodils and of course roses!  My mum also grows roses in the back yard, as you may have noticed in some previous posts. So we were pleasantly surprised when we went on a picnic to Werribee Mansion with friends and family on Australia Day and we noticed a fantastic rose garden nearby. I'm a bit ( read: a lot ) behind on blogging as A ustralia Day was on January 26th but this rose garden is too beautiful not to share. There was every variety, colour and fragrance imaginable. I had to giggle to myself as my aunty Carmel, mum and I stopped at practically every rose and said "Mmmm, smell this rose.......  mmm, smell this one..." I loved these purple roses, although they look a bit pink in these photos. I had such a lovely day sitting underneath a tree, eating yummy food, wandering around the rose garden and playing a bizarre but fun card game that I've since for...

Just like little children, my mum and I went to the Royal Melbourne Show. Actually, there were many adults there, it was a fun day. First we went to the food pavillion and tasted all manner of food samples - chocolate licorice, chilli salsas, salami, honey and cheeses.  We watched Cosentino the illusionist, which I surprisingly enjoyed. Then we had a wander around I convinced my mum to go on the ferris wheel with me.  I'm happy to say that we weren't petrified of heights. In fact, I really enjoyed being up in the sky. We could see the horse show... the suburbs... and the Pie in The Sky. We returned back to the main stage to find an Elton John tribute band performing. One of the lyrics in 'Crocodile Rock' is Me and Suzy had so much fun .
