So I'm back to the velvet underground

Day 2 in Tasmania began with a nice sleep in and then my family and I went to Hastings Cave, a 1.5 hour drive from our hotel in Hobart. I wasn't sure what to expect and was genuinely amazed by the beauty of the stalactites coming down from the cave and the stalagmites growing up from the cave floor. We walked up and down many steps, 50 metres below the ground, looking at the  stalactites  in wonder. We had to be careful walking on the wet, slippery ground and ducked the low parts of the cave. We were told not to touch any of the  stalactites  or  stalagmites  as the oils on our skin kill them and stop them from growing. We spent the afternoon swimming in the hot springs pool. After returning to the hotel for a shower and change of clothes, my family and I went out for a late dinner at Ball and Chain .  It's a restaurant with steak and seafood cooked on a charcoal grill, in a historic building that was constructed by convicts. The rump steak with m...

All Things Must Pass

Hello! What a week it's been! George Harrison said it best, all things must pass . Although I've gotten into the routine of working from home, yesterday was my last day of doing so.  I'll have to return back to school on Monday. Of course I'm a bit nervous about it although I'm trying not to be as I know the school is taking so many safety precautions. Plus I know my grade 1 students are eager to get back to school. They have expressed that this stay-at-home period has left them feeling worried, angry, scared - gosh children are really perceptive about what is going on around them. The principal asked the teachers and children to take a photo of their learning space to document this unique time in history. Here I am working on my trusty school laptop... In preparation to returning back to work, we teachers have been offered a voluntary coronavirus test, which I did on Wednesday. For two days I was absolutely dreading it as I'd seen pictures of the metho...

Under a Blood Red Sky

On Day 5 of our Eden holiday, the last day of 2019, we woke up to find a magnificent red sun. It reflected on the water, making it sparkle like orange diamonds and immediately reminded me of a U2 song.  My mum.  Later, I went for my usual beach walk and saw a man meditating on the beach and then he walked straight into the water for a swim. What a perfect way to start the morning, I thought. Except for the fact that swimming before 10 am is referred to as 'shark hour' but, you know, some people have no fear. Outfit details: Leopard dress, belt and ring - secondhand market finds. Pink thongs- forgive me, I'm on holiday! My mum and I went to the Eden wharf to buy some seafood for lunch. We met a lovely, talkative lady (just our kind) with a New Zealand accent who was selling seafood. We came away with oysters, mussels, snapper, prawns and a lovely chat. This was my favourite me...
