Something in my heart keeps saying my someplace is here

A sunny day at the beach with my sister and mum. A souvlaki for lunch and mint icecream for dessert. A ladybug landed on me, a sure sign of good luck. What more could I ask for? I happily strolled along the beach in my new-to-me Tree Of Life dress that I bought on eBay at the beginning of 2025. Completely in my element, I admired the turquoise water and sky.  On the way home, we stopped into a Vinnies opshop. I found a purple velvet kaftan, a yellow floral parasol and my sister spotted an I Dream of Jeannie book for me, all for a grand total of $14. I was happy with that. I've thought about us for a long, long time

Hello, it's me! I'm finally on work holidays, which is a joy after completing reports for my students. Reports are always a long and sometimes stressful process so I'm glad and very grateful to be able to relax for 2 weeks.  Here are some things I've been up to lately...   Opshopping!  I've noticed that I don't find many great treasures at opshops any more. I may find a few small things here and there, such as a scarf, book or DVD, costing $1-2 each, but no really amazing finds or pieces of clothing lately.    To me, the markets are where all the exciting finds are! Last Sunday, I found all these pieces for a grand total of $61. Cable knit sweater - $10 1940s style short sleeved sweater - $5 Velvet pants and cord pants -$7.50 each Coral pendant - $20 Pink, vintage saucer- $2 And three bags of feijoas - $9.   Can you believe I scored this sterling silver and coral pendant for only $20? I collect coral jewellery and have been wearing this pendant all...

Life's been good to me so far

Good morning! Victoria is currently in the middle of its 5th lock-down and since I'm home, I figure now is as good a time as any to look back on my work holidays and share some fun I had a couple of weeks ago. Mum and I went to the most spectacular hidden gem of a cafe called Old Man Drew . We sat in the sprawling garden, which was truly beautiful, with different plants, fruit trees, vegetable plants, vintage items and trinkets to be found around every corner. It was so cute, a truly magical place that I can't wait to return to!     I loved this wall of mirrors and the Christmas in July room (below).   I would have been mesmerised with the atmosphere alone but the food was also so delicious. As I'm indecisive when it comes to ordering food from a place I've never visited before , I like to look at what other people are eating before I order. As soon as we were seated, I spotted a man eating a homemade beef pie with mash potatoes and gravy. Now I'm not a huge mea...

Don't leave me hanging on the telephone

Hello again! Hope you're all doing well! I'm writing a quick blog post, while I've got a second! Life is always busy but I like to squeeze in time for the things I enjoy, like blogging and posting outfit photos! These photos were taken in April right before I was going on a canolli date. Such an Italian thing of me to do - haha!   I bought this dress not too long ago from a Savers op shop. It was $10-15 which is more than I usually spend on a secondhand dress but I've been wanting a denim dress for years. Plus this one was the perfect colour and length so I didn't mind spending the extra few dollars. Plus I wanted to look cute for my date! As of May 27 (my birthday) at midnight, Melbourne went into its 4th lock-down. We had quite a few months living life like 'normal', just going about our buisness so it's always a shock to have COVID-19 cases again and to have to suddenly go into a lock-down. Although I'm glad the government is so quick in protecti...

How to identify bakelite (the quick and easy way!)

Image
Bakelite and I have a long love affair. I love to find it and it likes to come home with me!  Wearing bakelite in 2018. Wearing bakelite bangles in March 2019.   Yellow sunshine.   The far left bangle on my left hand is bakelite as is the two far right bangles on my right hand.   The rest are other types of plastic.   Bakelite goes with everything, even Christmas outfits! No really, I do love bakelite! Ever since I learnt about it through reading vintage style blogs many years ago, it has fascinated me. I remember talking to an elderly lady who regularly sells at my favourite secondhand market. She was selling a whole box of bakelite bangles that she had collected since the 1950s and 1960s. All of the different styles, colours and carved pieces dazzled me but at $60-$100 a piece, I did not take any home with me. As this type of plastic is not made anymore, it has become quite collectable amongst vintage collectors and jewellery enthusiasts. Here's my bel...
