Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

  Last Christmas, my sister kindly gifted me a ticket to see the Beauty and the Beast musical, performed at Her Majesty's Theatre in July. She made me the cute postcard above and my mum also gifted me some adorable decorations of Cogsworth, Lumiere and Chip. My sister, mum and I first had lunch at Brunetti in the city, a quick panini and cake before the show started at 1.00pm.  This flakey dessert is one of my favourites at Brunetti. It's filled with zabaglione chantilly cream and topped with an amarena cherry. Naturally we dressed up for the theatre! I wore a velvet dress and my vintage fur coat, whilst y mum wore a denim tiered skirt with a gorgeous Afghan coat. The show was absolutely amazing, by far the best musical performance we have ever seen! The costumes were wonderful, the stage design enchanting, the singing and orchestra gave me goosebumps!  Once in a while, my mum and I visit a gorgeous and magical place called the Werribee Rose Garden. It's filled with a variety of roses in every colour and scent imaginable. It's the perfect place to wander around, snap photos, stop and actually smell the roses or have a picnic.  In fact, we have done all of these things in the past, which you may remember reading about  here or  here .  In the former post I have fond memories of a picnic on Australia day back in 2020 with my family friends. I remember my aunty Carmel who's in red in the above photos, who has now passed, admiring and smelling almost every rose, saying "Here Jessica, smell this rose....mmm this rose smells nice... did you smell this rose?" only to conclude that "Jessica, these roses are all beautiful but your mum really has the best rose garden, doesn't she?", which made me laugh. For a foodie, the Conservatory in the city is a dream come true. A beautiful buffet filled with every food imaginable and situated by the water, it is no wonder that my mum and I love returning there a couple of times a year.  We daydream about the fresh seafood, especially the oysters, crabs, prawns and vongole.  There are so many desserts to choose from! This time I enjoyed the tiramisu, strawberries in chocolate, Persian fairy floss and New York cheesecake. It is a gorgeous, fancy place with marble, hanging lights and glitzy costumes near the big entrance that leads up to the restaurant, so naturally we love to dress up.  This time I wore a maroon velvet dress and my vintage fur coat, along with a vintage bag and snake print boots.  My mum wore a beautiful red tartan skirt that she made herself with a denim jacket.  A day in the city! In the past, I didn't really enjoy going to the city, but recently I have learnt to love it. Nice food in cafes, little tea rooms, clothing stores, these are the places I enjoy. Recently my mum and I went to the city to have lunch at Florentino. I enjoyed my duck ragu tagliatelle although my mum was disappointed with her linguine with (not so fresh) seafood. Isn't it so disappointing when you go to a fancy restaurant and spend some big bucks and your meal isn't nice? Next we ventured into Sportsgirl where mum tried on some clothes and I took an outfit selfie in the 360 degrees mirror. I wore my new-to-me, vintage leopard coat which I mentioned in my last post. Mum and I were accidentally twinning as she also chose to wear her leopard coat that day! Not one to be embarrassed by this sort of thing, we laughed about it every time we caught sight of ourselves in a shop window and received quite a few compliments.     I have soooo been looking forward to spring this year. The warmer weather, the beautiful blossoms and wearing dresses again - that is what makes spring wonderful to me!   This week, I had to dress up and capture some photos in front of our fruit trees before the strong winds blew the blossoms away. I thought a pink dress was perfect for this occasion. But as I was rifling through my dresses, I noticed this cream vintage dress that I bought earlier this year for $10 at a market and haven't worn yet. We're still in lockdown so I can't envision that I'm going to go out and wear it anytime soon, so why not wear it at home? What I love most about this dress is the floaty sleeves. On instagram, I sometimes see whole posts dedicated to them, so I know I'm not the only one out there who adores interesting sleeves !
