Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

Hello again! I recently posted a blogger tag post and today's tag post is on fashion. What is your favourite style to wear? Vintage styles from the late 1960s and early 1970s.  I like minis, maxis and midis- I'll happily wear them all. Who is your fashion role model? Anita Pallenberg and Keith Richards. In fact, I like a lot of the glam rock outfits that musicians wore in the sixites and seventies, whether they were male or female. I like the colours, velvet, suede, big sleeves, leopard print, boots, belts, hats, fluffy jackets, patterned dresses, satin shirts. I could go on and on - I love it all. To answer the song lyric title, yes I've seen a lot of rain, especially over the weekend. It rained on Sunday which dampened ( pun intended! ) our chances of headings off to the market. I could hear the rain at 3 am and it went on for hours. I imagine that's what it'd be like living in England. So there was no market fun for me. Oh well, I got to sleep in, which is always good. Mind you, I"ve been to markets when it's downright raining, but it's not too fun getting wet, holding an umbrella and trying to look through the stakeholder's rails when they're often covered in plastic or soaking wet.  That happened a few years ago and I remember scoring a 1970s tan tooled bag for $7. It was probably meant to be that I didn't get to go to the market because I was so sick, I genuinely thought I was doing to die . On Monday, we had a day off for the Queen's birthday. It was nice to have a little bit of a sleep in, as I always wake up early. I hopped out of bed and made pancakes for my family and I. They were topped with cinnamon apples, maple syrup and buttered pecans- yum! After breakfast, I continued working on my students' reports and then headed off to hardware and garden store, Bunnings.  My mum really loves indoor plants, she's slowly filling the house with them. I like having plants in the house too, and they're supposed to be good for your mental health, which is always good. I bought some sunflower and silver-beet seeds and planted them as soon as we got home. I'm growing them indoors as I don't want them to freeze in the cold. After giving the market a miss last week , my mum and I decided to go on Sunday.  It was pretty cold, so we rugged up. Here's what I wore: Fluffy jacket- opshopped a few years ago. Skirt and vintage snakeskin bag- market finds. Boots, hat and scarf- retail, years ago. It was probably the last time I'll wear my trusty brown boots because the material on the right boot is starting to flake off. I'm glad I captured some images of them here . I really like brown boots and these are perfect for me because they're knee-high and have a comfortable block-heel, which brings to mind a 1960s inspired look. Luckily, I have a few other brown boots- one is a flat, lace-up pair and the other is a  high, block heeled pair . I don't wear the high pair often as they can be uncomfortable. I wonder if I'll find another perfect pair of brown boots. Retail shops only seem to sell uninteresting black boots so I'll have to wait for a ...

On Sunday, my mum and I didn't visit the market, can you believe it?! We love to go but didn't this weekend. Oh well, it's not all bad, I got to sleep in. We had some family coming over for lunch, so we spent the day with them, chatting and eating away. I even got to sneak in a bit of reading time in the sun, before they arrived.  I haven't been feeling well, so I really appreciated some time to sit and relax in the sun. My uncle's girlfriend made a lovely red velvet cake (below), a bit of a belated celebratory cake for my mum's and my recent birthday . Can you believe I only paid $5 for these boots at a market last year?  The lady who was selling them said she'd never worn them before  because the laces took too long to do up. I've been looking for a fluffy leopard jacket for quite a few years now and I finally found one at the market last week. My dad kindly bought it for me as a birthday present. I've often spotted leopard jackets in retail stores and even secondhand at markets, but they've always been too big or too small and are often very boxy. So I was quite happy to find one that fitted well and wasn't bulky. There's something that's really fabulous and classic about leopard print.  You only have to look at these vintage photos for inspiration...
