Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

 Hello, it's me! I'm finally on work holidays, which is a joy after completing reports for my students. Reports are always a long and sometimes stressful process so I'm glad and very grateful to be able to relax for 2 weeks.  Here are some things I've been up to lately...   Opshopping!  I've noticed that I don't find many great treasures at opshops any more. I may find a few small things here and there, such as a scarf, book or DVD, costing $1-2 each, but no really amazing finds or pieces of clothing lately.    To me, the markets are where all the exciting finds are! Last Sunday, I found all these pieces for a grand total of $61. Cable knit sweater - $10 1940s style short sleeved sweater - $5 Velvet pants and cord pants -$7.50 each Coral pendant - $20 Pink, vintage saucer- $2 And three bags of feijoas - $9.   Can you believe I scored this sterling silver and coral pendant for only $20? Today was a special day. My favourite secondhand market finally reopened! I haven't been there since February and there have been quite a few times this year where I have really missed it. Masks on and sanitisers available at most of the stalls, mum and I set about treasure hunting.    With a reduced amount of stalls, mum was a bit disappointed that she only came away with a few small items. Me on the other hand, I found enough for both of us! I don't usually find this many things at once when shopping secondhand (it's a bit hit and miss) but I scored quite a few bargains today. Let me share them with you... Vintage deer bookend - $5. These can be quite pricey so I pounced on this. It's a nice addition to my collection. Elvis and Judy Garland DVDs: $5 and $2 respectively.  Handmade soap: $5 for five. I use this soap on my hair and my stash is frighteningly low so I thought I'd better stock up. Do you want to know the best thing about being a similar size to your mama?  You can steal (or borrow) her clothes!  My mum gave me this cord jumpsuit when she was clearing a few things out of her wardrobe. You may recognise it from a recent, football themed post . It's so comfortable to wear. I paired it with my navy turtleneck and matching beret that I crocheted myself. Such a monotone outfit called for my patterned Turkish boots. These boots received many  compliments  at the weekend market, one lady even declared, "I NEED THEM!" I didn't know what to say to that, so just laughed. Thank you darling, but I'm not parting with them, perhaps . I found a few treasures for myself at the market. On the weekend my mum, dad and I went to Lorne for a family friend's 50th birthday. We were last in Lorne in April , it's such a beautiful, picturesque place. My sister couldn't make it because she was performing in a theatre show. I think she's a bit of a superstar, but more on that later. The two hour drive to Lorne was wonderfully scenic - there's hills, magnificent fields of yellow flowers and then to top it off, ocean views. The roads got windy and my dad, who thinks he's a race car driver, had my mum and I squealing, feeling car sick and getting a headache all at once!  Finally we arrived and everyone had lunch at the Lorne Hotel, spent some time in the sunshine and chatted away to family and friends.  Before we left, my mum and I took some photos at the beach. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!  I know  Father's Day is a hard day for a lot of people who have lost their father and for many dads who don't get to spend this day with their children.  I am really grateful that I've got a good relationship with my dad. Sometimes we annoy each other, but I can tell him anything and I adore him. Yesterday we began the Father's Day celebrations by spending the day at the beach. It was the last day of Winter in Melbourne and the sun came out to play. I love being by the beach and am always sad to leave. For lunch, we had a big share platter of meat, roasted potatoes and vegetables and then had an ice-cream as we walked on the pier. I wore this outfit to a wedding last weekend. I'm not usually that keen on going to weddings, but I had a good time.  It was an Italian and Macedonian celebration, with music from both cultures so I was in my element as I understood the aspects of both traditions. The food was nice, I liked the panna cotta dessert and I had fun dancing - I can't complain! The bride and groom looked so genuinely happy and their joy was contagious. I nitially   I wasn't sure what to wear as it  was quite a cold day and my formal clothes are more suitable for Summer . I pulled out this floral dress and paired it with my suede vintage shoes and a clutch bag that I recently found at the market. The inner tag on the bag says that the outer section is made of 100% paper, which makes it look like wicker. I love these shoes. I don't know if they're called lace up shoes or boots.
