You light me up like starlight on a Christmas tree

As always, I've been busy, busy, busy this week. Yes it is worth writing three times, but then again the end of year is a busy time for many people. Christmas shopping and celebrating, catching up with loved ones, racing to the end of the work year.

Yesterday was spent visiting family friends which was nice. This morning I had brunch with a couple of friends from high school. It's always good to catch up on each other's lives and while away hours chatting. Some other dear family friends visited this afternoon and now I've got the last few hours of the weekend to myself. Before I get to relaxing, I wanted to share some Christmas-y photos with you.

This is my family's beloved Christmas tree that goes up every October 31st (I know that sounds super early and crazy but we don't care). This year we thought we needed some extra Christmas cheer so October 31st couldn't come around fast enough. Mum has been collecting a few decorations each year since my sister and I were little and now I like to add a few decorations of my own each year. Usually we put up the tree in the lounge room but decided to put it in the kitchen/TV room this so that we could enjoy and see it more.

To match the tree, I decided to wear a red and green Mexican dress I scored at a secondhand market a couple of years ago. Isn't it just perfect for Christmas?

I don't usually buy a new outfit for special occasions as I like to just look in my wardrobe and see what I already have. So I've pulled out some red and green dresses and I'm trying to decide what I shall wear for Christmas. Which dress is your favourite?

Mum and I spotted these cute Christmas mugs in Spotlight a few weeks ago, but at $10 each, they were a bit pricey. When mum noticed them in a sale last week, she snapped these two up. They are so adorable and I've been using them to have my usual hot chocolate  most afternoons.

These colourful bakelite bangles go with everything and the one on the far left is the one I found last week for 50 cents! Major score! I've seen them being sold for $60-80 around these parts.

As you can tell, I'm very excited for Christmas this year and am eager to catch up with some family and friends, some of which I haven't seen since the very beginning of this year. Thank goodness COVID is under control here in Melbourne and we can actually visit people.

I will regale you with more Christmas photos and tales next week.

X

Title: Glittery by Kacey Musgraves and Troy Sivane.

(My sister has recently got me listening to Kacey. Shock horror. I usually stick to my good ol' bands. I know. Kacey's got some really good songs, though. Check her out.)

  1. Haha! That's so funny about you putting a tree up at Halloween! Different strokes for different folks.
How lovely that Australia is free of Covid and can enjoy Xmas socialising. We're having to knock doors and leave pressies on the doorstep this year.
All your dresses are lovely. xxx

    1. We're a funny lot!

Thank goodness we can have gatherings. I haven't seen many loved ones since the very beginning of the year. I hope your Xmas is lovely despite the restrictions. X

  2. October 31 is indeed really early, but I think especially this year we can all use a bit of extra cheer. I'm not the biggest Christmas fan, but at least we are putting up a tree every year, and apart from this year we've been adding one or two decorations every year. It can still happen though, as non-essential shops have just re-opened, although there was nothing that rocked my boat when I looked in the charity shop a couple of days ago!
I'm loving your festive dresses and can't wait to see which one you'll be wearing at Christmas.
Unfortunately there will be no Christmas socializing or visiting friends here for a while yet, but I'm overjoyed to hear that Christmas is going ahead over there! xxx

    1. Indeed, we needed the Xmas cheer!

I haven't found any decorations to add to the collection this year either. Everything was pretty bland over here.

I hope your Xmas is good despite the restrictions you have over there. X

  3. We put our tree up extra early this year on the 2nd of December. Normally its the 12th or later!
I love your red and green dresses. My favourite is the one with the vertical green stripes.
Glad to see you are able to meet friends. I can't wait for that to happen here.

    1. Yes, fingers crossed it will happen soon for you.

I feel that we have spent much of this year in lockdown so we're all very glad that we can have Xmas gatherings.

The green pleated stripes seems to be a favourite. X

  4. Hello Jess, thank you for sharing your pictures. That is the earliest I have heard of a tree going up, but why not!? And so nice you get to share it with your family and friends. I love all the dresses, but would especially steal the Mexican one. I have been watching Mexican dresses on eBay and I either miss out on them or they go for too much money. I might even have to try to make one for myself! I look forward to the next Christmas installment. Lulu xXx

    1. Exactly, why not!

Yes, I adore Mexican dresses too. I have seen them go for silly money on eBay but I've managed to snag quite a few at secondhand markets for $5-$10. I hope you find some soon. X

  5. When I worked in the Christmas industry, I knew a lot of people who put their trees up that early! I heartily agree with putting the tree in a spot for maximum visibility. I love your beautiful dress and wow, what a great collection of dresses you have! I think my personal fave has to be the green pleated one. We used to sell mugs like that at my store! Nice to see them again. :)

    Happy Monday, Jess!

    1. Maximum visibility, indeed! I think we'll keep the tree in this spot every year now.

Oh, the mugs are so very cute and the green pleated dress seems to be a stand-out. I didn't know you worked in the Xmas industry - very cool! X

  6. My vote is that lovely green pleated dress! We just got a 12 inches of snow here so my Christmas outfit will most likely include a big warm sweater instead of a nice flowy dress unfortunately.

I usually put my tree and other decorations up the weekend after Thanksgiving (the last weekend in November) but I seriously considered putting it up early. If there ever was a year to get a jump start on some Christmas cheer, it would most definitely be this one!

Oh you've got snow! How lovely!

Yes, exactly our thinking. We needed the Xmas cheer. X
