Hands across the water

On Monday, my mum, sister and I had a fun day trip out to Ballarat, a country town this is historically known for the Gold Rush in the 1850s. It was a one-and-a-half hour drive and I always enjoy the scenery- the hills, trees, sky and farm animals are such a peaceful sight to me.

Photo taken in the town centre.

We spotted a few opshops as we drove into the town centre and popped in to check them out. There weren't many treasures to be found, although I did come away with a metal necklace. It's very heavy and the older ladies at the counter joked about how I'd need a chiropractor massage after wearing it! I thought the necklace might have been vintage due to the weight of it, but the clasps look modern. Nevertheless, it's the style that I like - I've worn it a couple of times already.

We got lost looking for a place to eat- the town centre seemed like an endless, maddening maze. Finally we spotted Grill'd and ate there. You can't go wrong with the Grill'd burgers and sweet potato chips - they're always delicious.

Then we had a lovely stroll around Lake Wendouree. The lake is so large it looks like a beach. It was peaceful and all, but the wild wind cut our walk short.

We spotted a bird with a fishing hook stuck in its wing. It looked horrifyingly painful. My mum an sister tried to get close to the bird to remove the hook but it quickly moved away. I sure hope the bird managed to unhook itself.

Before we got to the car, my mum noticed a vintage-looking tram with its very own tram conductor in full uniform. It's not a sight we usually see in Melbourne, so I had to take a quick snap of it. The old tram must be operating while children are on school holidays.

We also stopped of at the Sovereign Hill gift store to get some traditional, handmade, hard-boiled lollies. I must be a child at heart! The jar I bought last year and was rambling on about here, is almost finished so I wanted to get some more. I love the raspberry flavour but this time I bought the butterball  flavour. I remember tasting them at Sovereign Hill when I went to camp in primary school. For someone who's not a lolly person, I sure do love them.

On the way home, we visited the Ballarat Mills Market. Some of the things there were quite expensive, but it was nice to have a look around.

It's amazing to imagine that women really used these hair dryers!

  1. You live in a gorgeous part of the world, Jess! Look at those skies. That's a fab photo of you and your Mum and I love the necklace, modern or not.
The antique centre looks interesting. I had a bit of a thing for those hairdryers a while ago and amassed quite a few - I grew up using one! xxx
