Dreaming of Vintage Treasures

A few weeks ago, my mum, dad and I spent the day in Geelong, catching up with some family and friends. Julie, Andy and their children were down from Queensland for the weekend to watch their son Joel play football, so it was a perfect chance to catch up.  It was nice watching the game, chatting and laughing non-stop. This bunch are always cracking jokes and I delighted in our giggles. Being outside all day, I rugged up in my new fluffy coat, my Christmas present from mum this year. I squeezed in a sneaky wear of it before I wrapped it up in Christmas paper.  My mum has a maroon Afghan coat and a tan one, which I sometimes borrow. You may recall them from my blog posts here and here . Now I have one of my own, thank you mum! I practically pounced on it, when I saw it on sale. I've been secondhand shopping for so long, I forgot that retail stores have end of season sales!   A little while ago, my mum, sister and I had lunch at one of our favourite places in the city, Conservatory. It's an all you can eat restaurant with a wide variety of food. Mostly I dream of the seafood and I was SO excited to go. I love the lighted ceiling and marble staircase that greets you on the way in. I wore my new-to-me cream midi dress with cute puffy sleeves that I recently bought at a market for $7. I wasn't sure if the colour would suit me, but I like how it looks with the coral necklace.  A little while ago, my family and I attended a multicultural event that my sister and her work colleagues organised for the council. I got to taste First Nations food, Turkish Lebanese cakes, bubble tea and get my hand decorated in henna. There was a singing workshop, dumplings cooking class and Bollywood dancing lesson too. I can't believe my sister helped organise all that!     My mum and I also recently attended a bridal shower for my family friend Sharna. I wore my maroon velvet dress and snakeprint boots for the occasion.           Flowers for Sharna.          It was nice chatting to her and her family and the Italian food was delicious too.   We took a polaroid photo as we entered and wrote Sharna a message in a guest book.        I've known Sharna since we were children, with our mums being friends since their 20s, and I'm so happy to be celebrating a special time in her life.     My favourite Mexican restaurant... La Tortelleria in Kensington!       Once I find a nice place to eat at, I reakly enjoy revisiting the place everyone once in a while.   The pork and pineapple tacos are so delicious and don't get me started on the birria sauce! I seriously need to learn how to make it, it is the absolute best part of the meal.     On this day, it was very cold so my mum and I rugged up in warm coats. This fluffy, leopard coat always comes in handy.       I can never leave this place without enjoying the orange flan.     It is so creamy, sweet and delicious, I savour each bite. Later in the week, I had to try making it myself!     I think that is one of the best things about eating out. You try new foods and get inspired to make something different to what you might usually make.   What have you been up to / cooking this week? X   

My sister is full of great gift ideas. For my birthday, her and my mum got me a voucher to an art class to make a Turkish lamp. I was so excited and finally went a couple of weeks ago. Mum and I used the tram to travel into the city, admiring some cute stores such as Babushka. Before the 1pm class, we had lunch and dessert at Hopetoun T ea Rooms. Most people who walk past take a photo of the window displaying cakes and I was no exception. I've always loved the wallpaper in the tearooms. Mum and I shared a sirloin steak and seafood linguine as well as a pecan cake. Just prior to 1pm, we arrived at the art class and admired the lamps that were displayed around the store.  We couldn't wait to make our very own Turkish lamps! This is how my lamp turned out...
