So I'm back to the velvet underground

Image
Day 2 in Tasmania began with a nice sleep in and then my family and I went to Hastings Cave, a 1.5 hour drive from our hotel in Hobart. I wasn't sure what to expect and was genuinely amazed by the beauty of the stalactites coming down from the cave and the stalagmites growing up from the cave floor. We walked up and down many steps, 50 metres below the ground, looking at the  stalactites  in wonder. We had to be careful walking on the wet, slippery ground and ducked the low parts of the cave. We were told not to touch any of the  stalactites  or  stalagmites  as the oils on our skin kill them and stop them from growing. We spent the afternoon swimming in the hot springs pool. After returning to the hotel for a shower and change of clothes, my family and I went out for a late dinner at Ball and Chain .  It's a restaurant with steak and seafood cooked on a charcoal grill, in a historic building that was constructed by convicts. The rump steak with m...

So I'm back to the velvet underground

Image
Hello! Hope you're well! Yesterday I had a 21st birthday dinner to attend and this is what I wore: Rust coloured turtleneck and snake print boots (retail). Red velvet skirt (mum's). Pear shaped amber pendant (eBay bargain). I hadn't worn these boots in ages so I thought it was time to give them a whirl. This velvet skirt is actually a dress, a hand-me down from mum. It's not particularly flattering on my tummy so I was going to sell it but then I had the bright idea to wear a top over it and voila! Problem solved! It's that time of year again where I spend some time each weekend working on my student's reports. I like to wake up on a Saturday and/or Sunday, have breakfast and then spend a few hours chipping away at them. Then I feel I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day. I have some holiday photos to share but that'll have to be for another time- there's so many photos to sort through!  Hope you're having a lovely day. X  Title: Gypsy by Fleetw...

You could be my silver spring

Image
I have soooo been looking forward to spring this year. The warmer weather, the beautiful blossoms and wearing dresses again - that is what makes spring wonderful to me!   This week, I had to dress up and capture some photos in front of our fruit trees before the strong winds blew the blossoms away. I thought a pink dress was perfect for this occasion. But as I was rifling through my dresses, I noticed this cream vintage dress that I bought earlier this year for $10 at a market and haven't worn yet. We're still in lockdown so I can't envision that I'm going to go out and wear it anytime soon, so why not wear it at home? What I love most about this dress is the floaty sleeves. On instagram, I sometimes see whole posts dedicated to them, so I know I'm not the only one out there who adores interesting sleeves ! The vintage label says that it was made in California in 1972 - how amazing to know the exact year it was made. My mum and sister both remarked it looked lik...

Ain't it good to be alive

Image
Hello! Another w eek in lock-down here in Melbourne - what a time to be alive!  It is  disheartening  to  see the daily corona-virus updates but I am trying to stay positive and count my blessings. I am fortunate to have a full time job where I can work from home. It is a lot of work and stress but every job has its challenges, that's just life. If you spent your whole life looking for the perfect, stress-free job, I reckon you'd never find one. My lovely students are doing their very best to learn from home and families are doing a wonderful job helping them. In a video meeting this week, when we were talking about the things we were grateful for on 'Thankful Thursday', I reminded them to thank their parents because they are their first and most important teachers, not just during this remote learning period but throughout their lives. Walks to the valley always renew me. Last week, my whole family ...

I know I keep you amused but I feel I'm being used

Thank God for nature! In times of isolation, nature has been one of our few freedoms. In Australia, we are allowed to leave the house if we are an essential worker, if we are food shopping or exercising, all whilst social distancing.  The valley has always been a place of tranquility for me.  With the double denim and band tshirt (Sunnyboys of course), I was going for a George Harrison//Elvis/ Bob Dylan look. Source 1 & 2 My mum and I went to Yarra Glen (wine country) to stroll around and get some sunshine. These photos were taken before the exercise rule came about, so we actually had packed some food and ate on a park bench. But no more picnics for us! Now we've got to think more creatively!  My sister is very creative, actually.  She had some clothes dye, so we spent some time in the garden tie dying socks.  She also organised for us to take  part in onli...
