Summer Lovin'
Happy New Year! I hope the first week of 2022 has been good for you!
My family, boyfriend and I recently had a summer holiday in Eden, New South Wales. There was a whole lot of sun, sand, swimming at the beach, relaxing and even some trips out and about.
After a long 8 hour drive taking up most of day one, we spent our second day visiting Merimbula, a nearby beach town. We ate lunch at the RSL as has become a tradition, this time enjoying some Chinese food. I had sweet and sour pork with rice - deeeelicious. After lunch, we walked around the strip of shops and down to the boardwalk, where we spotted lots of jellyfish without any tentacles.
Back at the cabin, we made cannelloni stuffed with broccoli and cauliflower for dinner and ate it by the beach. Bliss.
On
day 3, we went for a drive to Davidson Whaling station. Immediately, we
spotted a little, wooden cottage that was built in 1896, that a family
of 10 once lived in.
Continuing on the path, we came across a beach where people used to catch whales in the winter time in the 1800s. Eden is a beach town historically known for its whaling history and even has a museum dedicated to a whale named Old Tom, who strangely used to help people trap other whales. Thank goodness the whales aren't hunted here anymore.
Next we went to Boydtown and saw a watch tower, unusual red rocks by the edge of the hills and a beautiful, expansive view.
From the inside of the tower, looking out.
Lastly, we went to a very, very long wharf. Again, the views were stunning. Pat and I walked to the end of the pier and noticed it took 10 minutes to get there, a long wharf indeed.
For lunch, we had a BBQ back at the cabin. Then my sister, Pat and I went for a swim. It was 20ºC that day, so it was quite cold getting into the water, but we quickly got used to the temperature and enjoyed ourselves. After a big lunch, we decided to have a small dinner. Camembert, crackers and grapes - sounds perfect to me.

Happy New Year, Jess! What a sight for sore eyes your holiday pictures are, especially on a grey and rainy Winter's day here in the Northern hemisphere.
ReplyDeleteBoth of your dresses are gorgeous and that cannelloni is looking seriously yummy! xxx
Thank you Ann!! The cannelloni was so delicious. X
DeleteWhat a gorgeous place that is! Happy New Year, Jess, to you, your mum, your beau and all of your lovely family! Ah, I can only imagine temps of 20 degrees - so jealous. I am also glad that whaling has stopped - how bizarre about Old Tom. Maybe he was trying to help the whales??
ReplyDeleteVery strange about Old Tom. He used to trick the whales into being caught by humans and then be rewarded with their whale lips, which he'd eat. How odd! X
DeleteHappy New Year, Jess! It's loively to see the sunshine and beautiful Summer skies when we're in the depths of winter. You and Pat make a gorgeous couple. xxx
ReplyDeleteAww thank you Vix.
DeleteSending you sunshine!! X
Hello Jess, oh what a beautiful place. I could quite happily live in that wooden whaling station - eating cannelloni and watching the whales (not hunting them!). I wonder if that tower was built for spotting them? Old Tom sounds like a bit of a *$%*. You look beautiful in your summer dresses xXx
