Tesselaar Tulip Festival
A couple of weeks ago, when I was still on work holidays, I enjoyed a fun day trip out to the annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival with my mum and sister.
We'd visited many years ago with some friends and when we saw a poster advertising that the festival was on again, we decided to go.
First we had some poffertjes, which is a perfect carnival or festival snack, in my mind.
We walked around the grounds and spotted a cute shop selling miniature fairies and mushrooms and a heaps of whimsical items. It would have been a dream come true for young children.
There are 120 varieties of tulips and they are all so beautiful!
Tesselaar Tulip Festival is held in Silvan every Spring and is a big tourist attraction in Victoria. The tulip farm began in 1954 when a Dutch couple migrated to Australia the day after their wedding. They loved tulips so much that they decided to fill a 55 acre farm with them!
We loved this fairground organ that played music by itself. It was very reminiscent of 1950s and 1960s movies with carnival scenes.
Outfit details:Maroon velvet dress, vintage basket bag and necklace: Market find. Afghan coat: Op-shopped years ago on the way to New South Wales. Tights and boots: retail, years ago. |
At the end of the day, my mum bought two pots of tulips and they look lovely. So now we've got a mini tulip farm on our kitchen windowsill!
See you next Monday, in a new blog post!
What a feast for the eyes! that must have been a wonderfully uplifting place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI love the windows in the tree and the toadstools, I think I'd have had to have made a few purchases.
Isn't that fairground organ lovely? Like something from a children's storybook. xxx
You're right Vix, the whole day was pure child-like fun! Xxx
