Heart of the Country

Image
A little while ago, my mum and I returned to our favourite country town, Daylesford . First, we had a look through the vintage mills market  and I found these Elvis and Johnny Cash records. The hand embroidered clock (left) is a recent op-shop find. And to think it was only $2! It's so cute! Then, we visited the Lavender farm, which we haven't been to in years.  The lavender wasn't in bloom but I could still smell the aroma in the air. It was so lovely to stroll around the gardens. An Italian family used to own the farm and it's evident that they were religious as they had built a huge Jesus statue. It's reminiscent of the Art Deco statue of Jesus in Brazil. There was a beautiful olive grove area too. Interesting fact: Did you know that olive trees never die of natural causes?  I love olives and recently marinated some homegrown olives given to me by a friend. I can't wait to eat them. We sat under the trees and

You say you want a revolution

Now, I'm not much of a city girl (I much prefer the country) but recently my mum and I had a great day out into the city. We have become one of those people who take photos with their food! Haha! We went there to see the Revolution: Rebels and Records, an   exhibition about showing items from 1966-1970, five years that changed the world.  First things first, we headed straight to an old favourite, Hopetoun Tea Rooms. We shared a lime cake, a chocolate mousse cake and a pot of chai - it was so delicious. It's a bit of a fancy-pancy place for me, but we only go about once a year, so it's a real treat. The cakes are always so yum and I love the green patterned wall paper.  We walked over to the art gallery and I was shocked to find out that the  exhibition wasn't actually at this gallery, in fact it was at the Melbourne Museum. Whoops - only I would make that mistake, I'm hopeless with directions and I just assumed it was at the NGV! We didn

Rocketman

Recently, my mum, sister and I went to the cinemas to watch Rocketman . It's received some mixed reviews so I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it or not. Turns out, I loved it! I enjoyed how it was part movie, part musical. I loved singing along to the songs and found myself saying "I didn't know Elton John sang this song!" [in particular, Pinball Wizard and Don't Go Breaking My Heart].  I was also on the verge of tears a couple of times, I had no idea about Elton John's hardships.  Source Whilst Elton John's flamboyant fashion isn't particularly the style of vintage fashion that I like, I did love the platform boots that some of the characters wore. At one point in the film, the character who played Bernie, Elton's friend/songwriting partner, wore a fab brown velvet suit. My mum and I both glanced at each other and gasped "I LOVEEEE that suit!" Rooms for the Memory

I had planned on writing about my recent trip to the cinemas to watch Rocketman , but something much more exciting happened this morning. On inxs_aus ' Instagram page, a fan posted a photo of their trip to the house where Australian cult classic  Dogs in Space (1986)  was filmed. As my mum and I went to a vintage market this morning, I told her about the house in nearby Richmond, and we spontaneously decided to go for a drive and take some photos in front of the house.  Once we got there, I was so excited to walk down the tiny lane and see the house. If you've read my recent blog post about going to see the film Mystify: Michael Hutchence , you'll know how I'm a big INXS/ Michael Hutchence / Dogs in Space fan!   It was easy to find the house because someone spray-painted the title of the film on the road in front of the house. I knocked on the door to ask if it was okay to take photos in front of the house and the young man was kind enough
